    Read about Showtime

Steady, consistent improvement and expansion, one step at a time — and now it’s a juggernaut. The iPod and iTunes show just how beneficial it can be to be first to market. Apple has had the benefit getting to this point slowly but surely; anyone who wants to compete with them now is forced to try to catch up all at once or settle for just one piece of the pie.

Daring Fireball: Showtime: The Big Picture

It’s a great read in true John Gruber fashion.

Yeah, they really were slow getting here though. How many YEARS did it take to add something as fundamental to listening to music as gapless?

    Watch movies, play games

    Apple – iPod

Now that you can buy movies from the iTunes Store and sync them to youriPod, the whole world is your theater. With a 30GB or 80GB iPod inhand, those movies fit comfortably next to TV shows, new iPod games, podcasts, audiobooks, photo albums, and, of course, an entire library of music — up to 20,000 songs, in fact. Now starting at $249, iPod is apocket-size prodigy.

It’s now thinner, cheaper, and larger (with 80GB!).

I had to buy Zuma since it helped me kill so much time my sophomore year of college.

It looks like iPod games are just packaged flash games… I’m hoping we can hack it apart and start making our own games, or even turn the iPod into a Flash player.

I never thought it could go this small!

    Use a Nike+ Sports Kit

Now a lot of users are (understandably) frustrated with Apple and Nike for designing the kit to only work with the iPod nano. Unfortunately, this is a situation to actually thank these companies for, as hard drive-based iPods aren’t designed to take the kind of impact that running delivers; their drives would ultimately end up failing sooner (as opposed to later), and there would be a lot of unhappy, iPod-less runners out there. Believe it or not, Apple (for once) actually saved a lot of people a couple hundred dollars with this move. TUAW

A week later with this device and it turned out “nice. Very nice.”
