Lightroom First Thoughts
Monday, January 9th, 2006
What is Project: Lightroom? Quite simply, Project: Lightroom’s sole purpose is to put you, the professional and advanced amateur photographer, right in the driver’s seat of our product development process. Ultimately, we hope Project: Lightroom is more about you than us.
That’s what I did a few minutes ago. I downloaded Lightroom and drove in the driver’s seat. I never lost control … and quite simply, I’m impressed.
Try it out and see if it fits your needs! Check out Macworld’s First Look, too.

Digital Photography highlighted at Macworld San Francisco
Tuesday, December 13th, 2005IDG World Expo today announced what it calls a “major focus” on digital photography at Macworld Conference & Expo, taking place January 9-13, 2006 at San Franciscos Moscone Center… MacMinute
Could we be seeing the rumored Apple camera? Too bad I won’t be going to MW this time, but that’s ok because I’d only feel bad seeing the pro-level cameras out there.
In any case, it seems like I’ll wake up at 3AM again to monitor the news. I’ll give iLounge another change, I’m sure this time, their live coverage of events will be much more… live.

An amateur photographer plays with Aperture
Tuesday, December 6th, 2005
Apple’s Aperture was certainly designed for the professional photographer. Does that mean talented, eager amateurs can’t benefit from using it? Of course not. Using his great educational discount ($249 vs. $499), Tom Bridge at O’Reilly bought himself a copy and really liked what he found. TUAW
Here’s another review but this time from someone I can understand… eg. an amateur photographer like me.
arstechnica reviews Aperture
Monday, December 5th, 2005
It saddens me to say that Aperture’s innovations are only skin deep. If it could deliver on the promise of being both fast and produce flawless results, it would be the dream package. At this point it is an expensive and questionable alternative to Camera Raw, a free extension to Photoshop, and Adobe’s Bridge which can batch produce better quality images in arguably less time. digged from arstechnica
Aperture could just be the first attempts of Apple in the photo editing arena. As of now, I’m actually happy with iPhoto and I don’t even have any plans of getting Aperture. I’m not really into full blown image editing so iPhoto and sometimes Photoshop are enough for my needs.

FlickrExport iPhoto plugin updated
Thursday, December 1st, 2005Huzzah! My favorite iPhoto plugin has been updated today. FlickrExport is plugin for iPhoto 4 and 5 that makes it so very easy to send photos from your iPhoto library directly to your Flickr account. Use it to add Flickr tags and descriptions to your images, alter their size and set privacy restrictions, all from within iPhoto.
Changes in version 1.3.0 include the ability to convert non-JPEG images to JPEG prior to upload, support for Unsanity’s Smart Crash Reports and some bug fixes. You can read the full change log here.
FlickrExport requires Mac OS 10.3.9 or later, iPhoto 4 or 5 and is donationware. TUAW
I couldn’t agree more with this post at TUAW. FlickrExport has been an essential add-on to iPhoto. I couldn’t think of anything else that’s so simple and so easy to use.
