I found this post at TUAW and I must say, it’s an ingenious mod! I tried it out and it’s now a permanent addition to my dock.
Basically, it’s setting a transparent folder “on top” of the other items in a folder. The transparent folder has a date way into the future so that when sorted by date, it will always be on top of the other files.
