Rapidly Restart Mac Firefox (or any app)

Thursday, July 5th, 2007

Here’s a nice Automator tip when you feel you must start Firefox or other apps for that matter…

I am not going to lie, Firefox for OS X is horrible reliability-wise. It crashes all the time, uses exorbitant amounts of physical and virtual RAM, sometimes won’t let you use the address bar… you get the point. The best fix is to restart Firefox whenever it begins acting sluggish, selfishly uses a lot of your CPU, etcetera. Unfortunately, that seems to happen more often than I’d like. How To: Rapidly Restart Mac Firefox - PaulStamatiou.com

Space Bar scrolling with Safari RSS

I was wondering why I couldn’t scroll with the Space Bar within Safari RSS. Now this tip solves the problem.

This tip requires modifying a system-wide piece of code. The changes you make will therefore be seen by any other program that calls the same system-level code—so this tip may affect more than just Safari. Macworld

FTP Files Without a Third-Party Program

Ftp Files

UPDATE: THIS DOES NOT work. As posted by “A nony mouse” in the comments, FTP via the Finder is read-only. There’s also a lively discussion over at Apple Support regarding this Apple Pro “tip.”

I’ve been using Cyberduck and Yummy FTP. It’s good to know this tip for quick FTP’ing.

Need to email somebody a file that’s larger than his 5MB email limit? Use FTP, because you can upload huge files with no restriction. You probably already knew that, but did you know that you don’t have to buy a third-party FTP client to FTP your files? That’s right baby, you can do it right from within Tiger. Apple - Pro - Tips

Lifehacker finds this Parallels Desktop Ubuntu installation tutorial at Simplehelp. I have tried Ubuntu a while back and I must say it’s refreshing to see a “different” OS. I’d surely file this tutorial as one of my future weekend projects.
