Being less social

Monday, July 7th, 2008

A couple of days ago, I woke up feeling no interest whatsoever with all of the social sites out there. So I took out a “machete” and cut off all of the sites. Not just cut off, but deleted my accounts. For good.

Gone were Twitter, Facebook, Multiply, and Friendster in several ruthless clicks. Plurk claims to have a delete account option but since they tweak everyday, the devs seem to have misplaced the option. So I did the next best thing by erasing my profile picture and info (which promptly deleted me from the stats page in a few minutes).

I’m back to the good ol’ days.

And it feels good!

MacMinute Final Post

Sunday, June 22nd, 2008

I wasn’t able to blog this but here it is now. MacMinute definitely closed down last June 6, 2008 due to the death of Stan Flack last April 14, 2008. MacMinute was one of the premier sources of posts for Switchblog.

I would like to take this opportunity to inform all MacMinute readers of the imminent changes to the site…

I have tried Firefox 3 but I still go back to Safari. I do like Opera 9.50 and Flock 2 though… So all our mileages will definitely vary.

Plurk

Thursday, June 12th, 2008

I’ve been disappointed with Twitter lately that’s why I’ve been trying out other Twitter-like services. I’ve tried Pownce, Jaiku, and FriendFeed but they didn’t seem to replace “twitterring.”

Then I discovered Plurk. It was a bit confusing at first. It had a timeline, it had verbs in colored boxes, it had creatures, and it had Karma. Weird. Or so I thought.

I signed up and for the past days, I’ve been actively “plurking.” I added friends from Twitter (who strangely but conveniently were using the same names) and have since added new friends, primarily from my country, the Philippines. (Just last night, we were having fun playing around with verb qualifiers that are in our native language.)

Plurk has been replacing blogging for me. It’s a lot easier to just “plurk” anything and usually get a response a few seconds later. Switchblog will however, remain here for those times (like now) when I need to write something more than a 140 character limit.

Intrigued? Why not drop by and see what Plurk is all about. Here’s the FAQ, but even better, here’s an invite.

Plurk out.

iPhone most popular cameraphone at Flickr

Recently read at TUAW… plus there’s a cool tip about taking shots too!

Analysis of current Flickr Data shows that the iPhone is their most popular camera phone. Part of that is the novelty of the iPhone, undoubtedly. Owners continue to relish any excuse to whip them out.
